I live in northern California and this painting is my interpretation of its golden hills: the dead grass that is all shades of gold shimmering in the sun, the trees and landscape burned to a crisp waiting for the first rain in November to burst into a lush green mantle. In June the last wildflowers are setting seeds for the finches to enjoy and the air is fragrant with the wild fennel.
